Vancouver Island residents Sandy Morter of Parksville, Lynda Osborne of Qualicum Beach and Marg Kavanagh of Victoria are gearing up for the third annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting BC Cancer Foundation.

If their fundraising efforts to date are anything to go by, the HeadOverWheels team is in for a pretty good ride.

The three women have been fundraising since the fall of 2010 and together have raised nearly $24,000 for cancer research in our province. Their goal is $30,000.

Community supporters, John and Bonnie Cope-Reinhardt, owners of Head Over Wheels Cycle in Qualicum Beach have provided them with specially designed Life Cyclers jerseys in honour of the ride.  In addition they have helped ensure their bikes have remained in  tip-top condition.

They will be joined by thousands who have the desire to make a difference.

Riders will travel through the Pacific Northwest over two-days, June 18 and 19, with funds raised from this epic event going to support breakthrough cancer research, treatment and the discovery of new therapies.

With 44 per cent of Canadian men and 39 per cent of Canadian women developing cancer in their lifetime, these Vancouver Island riders rightly viewed the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer as a call to action.

Watch for the trio training on the streets and highways in our community as well as in Victoria.

With the ride just days away, they are well on their way  to being ready to cycle the 250 km distance in two days.

This is the third annual Ride to Conquer Cancer in British Columbia.

Team HeadOverWheels, Sandy, Lynda,  and Marg, would like to extend a huge thank you to their families, friends, and to their communities who have been so generous and supportive of their endeavour.
