International Museums Day is on May 18. This is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society and within each of our communities.
In recent years, International Museums Day has been experiencing its highest growth with almost 30,000 museums organizing activities in more than 120 countries.
To celebrate International Museums Day, the Okanagan Heritage Museum is holding two special behind the scenes tours, offering a sneak peek behind it’s closed doors. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the collections, conservation lab, archives and more.
What you see on the gallery floor is just the tip of the iceberg. On these guided tours you will have the opportunity to see parts of the museum that are not normally open to the public, as well as some areas and services that you may not have been aware of.
This is your chance to solve the mystery of how museums keep history alive.
There will be two guided tours on Wednesday, May 18: 11 a.m. to noon and 2 to 3 p.m.
The Okanagan Heritage Museum is at 470 Queensway Ave. in downtown Kelowna.
