Situated on beautiful Slocan Lake directly across from Valhalla Provincial Park, New Denver is a vacationer’s paradise.

Home to about 600 residents, this is the perfect location for a lunchtime stop at one of the local eateries or a week long stay to enjoy the outdoor opportunities. Explore the clear water of Slocan Lake, hike the peaks in Valhalla Park or cruise the abundance of local trails on your bike or ATV. As well as being a great site for outdoor opportunities, New Denver is known for its history.

On the rock faces of the lake, see petroglyphs from early first nations people and in the local museum explore the ways of early mining and logging. But perhaps the most interesting glimpse of history is the town’s ties to the Second World War.

During the 1940s over 22, 000 Japanese Canadians from B.C.’s coastal region were labelled “enemy aliens” and forced to internment camps in regions like New Denver. Today, the town has established two commemorative sites to recognize this period in Canadian history.
