Volunteer mentorship opportunities

The Settlement Mentorship Program assists newcomers to the Central Okanagan in adjusting to life in Canada.

Immigrant Services’ Settlement and Employment Mentorship Programs matches newcomers with volunteer mentors.

The Settlement Mentorship Program assists newcomers to the Central Okanagan in adjusting to life in Canada, practicing their English, meeting new people and becoming engaged in our community. This is done by matching volunteer “mentors” with newcomer “mentees”, who then connect on a regular basis and participate in various activities together.

Similarly, in the Employment Mentorship Program, mentors will be matched with a newcomer mentee who is looking to work in the Mentor’s similar field of work. We are currently actively looking for people who work in accounting, logistics, the pharmaceutical industry and the import/export business.

Volunteers will benefit from meeting new people, sharing experiences and knowledge of Canada with others.  To find out how to get involved please contact Aimee, Settlement Mentorship coordinator at 250-763-8008 ext. 140, aimee@kcr.ca or Marriana, Employment Mentorship coordinator at 250-763-8008 ext. 135, marriana@kcr.ca.

Also operating out of KCR, is the Family Friend Program, dedicated to enriching the lives of single parents through friendship and community connection. Family Friend matches volunteers to single parents who are feeling isolated due to the stresses of parenting young children. The Family Friend will mentor, be a friendship, offer practical and emotional support, take part in family activities, and community connection.

Training and ongoing supports are provided for all volunteers.  If you are interested in making a difference, please contact Lisa at 250-763-8008 ext. 136 or email familyfriend@kcr.ca.
