Working a job gives you a physical paycheque, but volunteering gives you a mental paycheque.
Having both in your life can give you better balance and more appreciation for yourself and your community. When you ask any volunteer, why they do it, the most common answer is that it makes them feel good. This is what we call the “mental paycheck.”
At Mission Adopt-A-Block, our volunteers receive their “pay” from the many different activities that they participate in from the adopt-a-street program, barrel painting program, school litter audits, and spring and fall clean-ups, to the new pick and pub events.
But that’s not all, there are many other community events that our volunteers come out to as well including the Folk Festival, Missionfest, and Rockin River.
The next time you see one of our volunteers, imagine for a second what Mission would be like without the work of these tireless souls and thank them for all they do for you, for us, for the community.
It might just give you, your own “pay” for the day.
If you would like to experience what volunteering with us is all about join us April 20 for our Earth Day event, restoring a portion of Windebank Creek, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 32540 Logan Ave. For more information visit missionadoptablock.com.
