The Murtle River Nordics ski club advises that the 30-km Loppet loop trail in Wells Gray Park is now groomed for skiing.

Classic track will be set, and will then be groomed level with excellent skiing conditions.

The daily trail fee is $5 for adults, with no charge for children. Membership forms can be either printed off the website or picked up at Helmcken Falls Lodge. Membership is $35 per season for adults, with no charge for children.

Murtle River Nordics and Helmcken Falls Lodge will host the 13th annual Wells Gray Birchleg family fun day on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Birchleg registration forms will be mailed out in early January. If you don’t receive one in the mail, you can either print the form from our web-site: www. murtlerivernordics.com or pick up a brochure from Helmcken Falls Lodge. Registration on the day of the event begins at 9 a.m. at the Majerus warming hut in Wells Gray Park, a 45-minute drive from Clearwater.

While some choose to ski to the Majerus Farm (three km return), others prefer either the 10-km Blackwater trail, or the 20-km McLeod Hill trail.

A shuttle service will provide transportation from Helmcken Falls Lodge back to the Majerus warming hut to pick up your vehicle.

The day ends with a hot lunch, prize draws, and silent auction items. All children to the age of 12 receive a prize, so it is very important that families with young children pre-register.

We have some very nice items donated for silent auction again this year, including a cord of split, dry fir firewood that can be delivered anywhere in the Clearwater area.
