I just received an email that read: “Hi Dawn, There are new or updated opportunities available that match your criteria.” Five volunteer job titles were listed along with live links to find out more.
The final sentence read: “You can change your email preferences by logging in to your profil,” followed by another live link.
This email reminded me how fortunate we are in the Central Okanagan to have this volunteering e-match system. It makes looking for volunteer opportunities very easy.
If you have not created your volunteer profile and are not receiving this type of confidential, computer-based matching, I encourage you to do so.
Here are the steps involved.
Go to www.kcr.ca, click on ‘Volunteer Opportunities Search Central Okanagan.’ Look for the tab that reads ‘Create Volunteer Profile’.
This opens up a form that prompts you to think about what interests you.
Select one of these areas of interest. There are 19 in total.
Within each area of interest, select the tasks that appeal to you. Click “submit’ to save your selections within this area and move onto the next area that interests you.
For example, are you an administration kind of person? Do animals pull at your heart strings? Arts and culture might bring out your creativity.
Communications and marketing offer options for you to consider. Maybe you like hands-on projects in construction or home maintenance.
Some of the other areas of interest include education, environment, family services or food preparation.
Are you athletic and avidly involved with sports and recreational activities? Special events might grab your attention. This is also a great option for families or groups from work to consider.
It is time to take the plunge. Go to www.kcr.ca. Click on ‘Volunteer Opportunities Search’ and create your volunteer profile.
Get involved.
Impact our community.
