1 person dead, 2 in critical condition following crash in Burnaby

Police say impairment not believed to be a factor in 2-vehicle collision

An early morning crash in Burnaby left one person dead and another two people in critical condition Sunday (Feb. 18).

RCMP say a vehicle with four passengers was reportedly stopped on the side of Highway 1, near the Sprott Street off ramp, when it was struck by an SUV around 3:30 a.m.

When police arrived, they found one female passenger dead. The three other female passengers were taken to hospital, with two of them in critical condition.

The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was released from the scene. RCMP say they don’t believe impairment was a factor.

They’re asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who has footage of the area from 3:30 a.m. to 3:45 a.m. to contact the Burnaby RCMP detachment.

“We send our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of everyone involved. This is a tragedy that will affect so many,” Corp. Mike Kalanj said in a statement.
