A Surrey man who stabbed another man to death outside a house party in Cloverdale nearly two years ago has been sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Adrian Skara was charged with second-degree murder for the March 2010 stabbing death of 21-year-old Buta Singh Sangha.
However, in New Westminster Supreme Court on Monday, Skara pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter and was sentenced the same day.
The early morning stabbing happened in an alley near 192 Street and 71 Avenue. Police had received several noise complaints in the neighbourhood before the fight, but said the altercation had nothing to do with gangs, drugs or organized crime and was a dispute between neighbours.
A Facebook page was set up after Skara’s arrest called We Support Adrian Skara, intended to show the accused “that there are many that love him and care about him at this time.”
One of his supporters posted Sunday that he “took a deal” and would be getting 10 years, adding “he won’t do half of that though…”
