100 Mile House library branch is having a book sale for six days

The sale is to make room for new books in the library

The 100 Mile House Library Branch is having a book sale from Sept. 8 to 15, excluding the ninth and tenth (Sunday and Monday).

“We’ll be doing it by donation, so people can come in with a bag or box or whatever they want and pay whatever they want by donation,” said Gina Gigliotti, branch assistant.

The sale is happening because the library needs to get rid of discarded books so new ones can come in. Normally, the library branch tries to do two book sales every year, usually in September and sometime in autumn.

“It consists of a bunch of books that have been weeded and discarded from the library system and some donations. They’ll be non-fiction, novels, audiobooks and children’s books,” said Gigliotti. “We don’t have space to grow. The new stuff comes in, the old stuff has to go because we have to make room. It’s a weeding thing that has to be done every year.”

Smaller libraries in the area, such as Lac la Hache and the Interlakes also bring in some books to the 100 Mile branch to sell.

The proceeds of the book sale go to the Friends of the Library Society, who use the money to put on special events for the library.

In addition to buying books, people can also get a chance and win some from the Nuthatch bookstore.

“We also have a book draw, where you can come down to the book sale and you put your name in the draw and at the end of the sale we draw the name,” said Gigliotti.
