SURREY — Surrey is getting provincial government cash for its Bear Creek Greenway cycling infrastructure project.

The $141,302 in BikeBC funding will help pay for the expansion of cycling lanes and paths cyclists and pedestrians can use.

“We want cycling to be an option that is safe and convenient for all of our communities,” says Amrik Virk, Liberal MLA for Surrey-Tynehead. “Creating more cycling and pedestrian lanes helps reduce some of the extra traffic on our roadways and is also a great way to promote a more active lifestyle.”

The provincial BikeBC cost-sharing program is part of the government’s 10-year transportation plan, B.C. on the Move. For more information, see www.th.gov.bc.ca/BikeBC.

Surrey-Fleetwood Liberal MLA Peter Fassbender notes it is sometimes faster for people to commute to work by bike, or even walking. “Keeping the car parked for a few extra days also helps save a few dollars each month on gas,” he notes.

“The Bear Creek Greenway is a project that will be well-used by our community for years to come.”
