Ashcroft’s first mayor

The Kincaid family arrived in Ashcroft in mid-August to explore roots and see where their father David spent his childhood.

Their grandfather, Sam Kincaid came to Ashcroft in 1922, and after a brief stay here headed north to a job as telegraph worker in Hazleton. Samuel returned to Ashcroft in 1928 to marry local girl Elsie Sutherland.

The Kincaids were very active members of the community. In 1952 when Ashcroft became incorporated Sam was elected its first Chairman.
