Penticton’s Granfondo announced today (Aug. 23) that the event will be cancelled this year.

Following the provincial health announcement Aug. 20 which included further restrictions across the Interior region, Granfondo says they spent the weekend before determining to cancel.

“We were hopeful that the 2021 event would be a celebration of our progress along the road to recovery,” the Granfondo team said in a Facebook post. “However, as of today, we have been left with no choice but to cancel.”

The Granfondo announcement comes around the same time Penticton’s Ironman triathlon and the Dragon Boat Festival announced cancellations as well.

The post added that all entries for this year’s Granfondo will be rolled over to the 2022 event with no penalty.

The next Granfondo is scheduled to take place July 10, 2022.

The Granfondo is a huge economic driver for the South Okanagan with racers coming from all over B.C.
