A 20-year-old Langley man has been sentenced to nearly two years in jail for beating and robbing another man two years ago.
On Monday in Surrey Provincial Court, Mathew Samms was given 22 months in jail, to be followed by three years probation and a lifetime weapons ban.
Last October, a provincial court judge found Samms guilty of robbery and assault causing bodily harm in connection to the beating of Chris Lafrenier in November, 2014.
Samms’ friend, a 16-year-old Aldergrove boy, had already pleaded guilty and was sentenced two years ago to an unspecified amount of time for his part in assaulting and robbing Lafrenier. His name can’t be published because he is a young offender.
The 16-year-old testified at Samms’ trial that he had kicked the victim in the head at least 15 times.
Lafrenier, who suffered a head injury, broken nose and a broken tooth, had to take time off work and was unable to pay rent for a month.
