More than 2,200 hydro customers in South Surrey and White Rock are expected to be without power until around 7 p.m. tonight, after a pole at the intersection of 24 Avenue and King George Boulevard was damaged.
The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. April 30, when the driver of a truck apparently took a turn onto 24 Avenue from King George too tight, taking out the pole’s guide lines.
Firefighters at the scene from Hall 17 said the pole was pulled “quite far back” by the truck, and will likely need to be replaced.
According to BC Hydro’s website, the affected area is bounded by 28 Avenue to the north, Russell Avenue to the south, 168 Street to the east and 152 Street to the west.
Traffic lights at 24 Avenue and King George are operating on battery backup, however, lights are out at least two nearby intersections – 24 Avenue and 156 Street, as well as at King George Boulevard and 156 Street – resulting in congestion.
