A motor vehicle incident in Glacier National Park has closed the Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Golden.
The incident occurred sometime around 8 p.m. and involved three tractor-trailers.
Revelstoke RCMP Sgt. Kim Hall said there were only minor injuries. “The only concern right now is for the diesel fuel that was leaking from the semis,” Hall said.
The incident occurred near a snowshed about 50 kilometres east of Revelstoke.
Hall said crews were working to move the trucks.
Drive BC is reporting that the highway will be closed until at least 2 a.m. PST. They’re expressing low confidence in that estimate. Another update will be provided at 10 p.m.
Heavy snow was beginning to fall in Revelstoke at the time of the incident, and 5 to 10 centimetres of snow was forecast for the area by DriveBC.
For those stranded because of the incident, beware that avalanche control is scheduled on a stretch of the Trans-Canada from 8 km west of Revelstoke to 26 km west of Revelstoke on Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Delays of up to two hours are expected.
