Three sections of highway near Williams Lake will be repaired and resurfaced this summer.

The provincial government recently announced a contract worth $3 million to Dawson Construction for the work.

The three locations include Beaver Lake Road and Gibraltar Mine Road (total of 17 km) to be resurfaced with a levelling course and an overlay of asphalt; Likely Road (total of 6 km) will have its surface milled and overlaid with asphalt as well as shoulder improvements; and Maze Lake and Keldon roads (total of 1.4 km) will be covered with paver-laid recycled asphalt.

The province says the work will increase safety for residents, eliminate rutting, potholes and other damage, improve the roads’ strength by sealing out water and ensuring the province gets the most value from its infrastructure investments over the long term.

“We want to make sure the travelling public is as safe as possible when they use key highways throughout B.C,” Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett said. “This significant resurfacing project will make sure that we get the most of our highway projects while giving commuters and industrial haulers a smoother ride along Williams Lake roads and highways.”

The work is expected to be completed by fall 2011.
