There will be lots of very well cared for animals for sale tonight at the 58th annual Williams Lake and District 4-H Sale taking place at the Williams Lake Stockyards.
Every one of the animals that will be on the auction block has been personally raised by one of the 4-H Club members under the guidance of a club leader, and their families.
There will be farm animals such as turkeys, market lambs, ewes, pigs, heifers, market steers and more available for sale as well as other various project items such as framed photographs and baking.
The sale starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Stockyards show ring following the parade of champions which begins at 5:30 p.m.
Purchasing a farm animal from a 4-H Club member is a great way to put food in the freezer for your family this winter and support the future farmers of the Cariboo Chilcotin.
In raising their animals 4-H members learn to identify breeds and select quality animals to raise.
They learn how to make good management decisions related to feed, care, health and equipment for raising their animals.
And they learn to develop an understanding of livestock production and management practices and gain an appreciation for marketing.
The 4-H members learn these and many more life skills by caring for one or more animals for a set amount of time that varies with the animal.
The 4-H member assumes responsibility for all aspects of their animal’s management.
