Military personnel of 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron conducted a search and rescue (SAR) exercise in the Kamloops area from 22-26 February 2016. The purpose of the exercise was to provide members of the squadron and Kamloops area SAR partners with realistic training and to build on the strength of existing relationships.

Most exercise activity was initiated with the launch of SAR aircraft from the Kamloops Airport into the local area and the Chilcotin Military Training Area. Some exercise support was also provided in Williams Lake.

A major air disaster event was held at the airport as the culminating event of the week long exercise, which included participation by the BC Ambulance Service and Kamloops Fire Rescue.

“442 Squadron conducts search and rescue operations throughout BC and Yukon Territory, and we see the value in training with our SAR partners demonstrated on a regular basis,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Clinton Mowbray, Commanding Officer, 442 (T&R) Squadron, Comox. “Their dedication and commitment has created a network of trained volunteers that are ready to respond throughout our area of responsibility and we are happy to have them as part of our team.”
