Members voted to change the name of the Seniors’ Centre in Lake Cowichan to The 50 Plus Activity Centre because anyone over the age of 50 can buy a membership and enjoy the benefits.
On October 16th there will be an Elder-Care presentation at the centre and Island Health has been hosting Brain Fit seminars every Thursday at 1 p.m.
Next Saturday is our Thanksgiving Banquet (turkey dinner). Cost for members is $12, non-members $15. Pre-register and pay today. Doors open at 4 p.m. and dinner, with all the trimmings, is served at 5 p.m.
Come and join us for our Halloween Dance on Oct. 25 with fabulous music by Jan Matthews. Doors open at 7 p.m., no-host bar, sandwiches/snacks served mid-evening. Members $13, non-members $15 and costumes are optional.
Our annual Fall Bazaar with new and used items on sale will be held on Nov. 1. Table rental is $15 and you must pre-register and pay by Oct. 29 to ensure a spot. Set-up Friday from 2 p.m. or Saturday from 8:30 a.m. Sandwiches and desserts will be on sale from our ‘foodsafe’ kitchen.
Our recent daily specials have sold out every day and Friday’s volunteer cook day brings various ethnic specials such as authentic curried chicken with basmati rice, maple baked beans and bratwurst with sauerkraut to name a few. Suggestions for specials are always welcome and gluten-free items are available.
Membership in the Cowichan Lake Golden Agers Society is $15 per year (Jan. to Dec.) which includes several benefits such as very reasonably-priced fresh made hot meals, soup, sandwiches, salads (fruit and veggie) and desserts. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Members are also reimbursed for one ambulance visit per year and subsidized for banquets and trips. Our last adventerous trip was to the Floating Dock Pub on Protection Island off Nanaimo.
Our welcoming centre is a safe, air-conditioned, comfortable place to visit, meet friends, make new friends and enjoy the activities that abound every week Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Refinished pool and snooker tables as well as shuffleboard for your enjoyment.
Our maintenance team will be building a horseshoe pitch in the spring.

Tuesday: Art classes with Robert at 9 A.M.; Bridge for beginners at noon; pre-registered complementary massages by Rita from noon; Reader’s Theatre at 7 P.M. starting October 21st.
Wednesday: Exercises with Pat at 9 A.M.; Carpet Bowling at 10 A.M.; Bingo at 1 P.M.
Thursday: Craft ladies meet at 11 A.M. and it’s Pie and Music Day with the “Good Time Boys” from noon until 1 P.M. A selection of pies are fresh-baked just for Thursday.
Friday: Exercise classes with Pat at 9 A.M.; Line dancing at noon. Cribbage at noon; Canasta at 1 P.M.
Sunday: Bingo at 7 P.M.
