A 94-year-old Parksville man on a motorized scooter crossing an unmarked section of Highway 19A was sent to hospital after being hit by a vehicle.
The collision occurred in front of Tim Horton’s along the Island Highway at approximately 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30.
RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said the man sustained minor injuries, such as a cut on his head.
“There is no indication that he won’t be just fine,” said Foreman, adding that RCMP returned the man’s scooter to his home shortly after the collision.
The driver of the vehicle was a Parksville woman, whose car did not sustain major damage.
“People need to realize that motorized scooters and wheelchairs are considered pedestrians,” said Foreman. “They are not cyclists or motor vehicles and they need to utilize sidewalks and streets in the same way pedestrians do.”
