The dance party is the third instalment of the Messy Church series hosted as a joint partnership between Gordon United and the Anglican Church of the Advent. Each month one of the churches hosts the event.

“I really enjoy bringing my family to Messy Church,” said Emily Hanson, mother of two. “It’s a way of doing something faith-related with my family that is not just church on Sundays.”

The Great Purple Dance Party will include several craft activities including beads, masks, play dough and painting.

“Purple is the colour for lent and traditionally Mardi-Gras is the Tuesday before lent,” said Rev. Heidi Koschzech or Gordon United Church. “We want everyone to come out and celebrate with us.”

After the dancing, a pancake supper will be supplied to all in attendance.

The event is inter-generational and people of all ages are welcome to come and attend the free event.

“The youngest we’ve had in the past was two months old and the older was 80,”  Koschzech said.

The Great Purple Dance Party is on Saturday, March 1 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Gordon United Church, 935 Goldstream Ave.
