Police are looking for the owner of a rifle that was found in some bushes in Nanaimo

The weapon, a Savage Model 11 bolt-action rifle was turned in to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment after it was found in some bushes on the 3000 block of Jingle Pot Road in late February.

The rifle has a trigger lock and shoulder sling attached.

According to police, it appears from where it was found that someone might have intentionally placed it there, leading investors to surmise it was stolen, but no reports have been filed with Nanaimo RCMP about a theft of a rifle matching its description.

Anyone who believes they are the rightful owner of the rifle is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.

Anyone who has information about the origins of the rifle, but wishes to remain anonymous is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com or call 1-800-222-8477.
