An Abbotsford man who was sentenced in May on two charges of impersonating a peace officer has been charged with an assault in Surrey and with breaching his conditional sentence order.
Surrey RCMP spokesman Cpl. Scotty Schumann said Charles Parent was charged after an alleged altercation between two roommates last Wednesday (July 13).
Schumann said the alleged victim suffered minor injuries. He said he could not provide further details because the matter is now before the courts.
The incident also resulted in a breach charge, because Parent’s previous sentence would have included conditions such as keeping the peace and being on good behaviour.
Parent, 49, received a nine-month conditional sentence in May, and was to abide by a curfew of 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. unless for employment.
He had initially been charged with four counts of impersonating a peace officer, but he pleaded guilty to two of the offences, and the other two charges were stayed.
One of those offences occurred in December 2013, when he opened his wallet to show a fake badge and a business card to a sheriff at the Abbotsford courthouse.
The other took place in January 2014, when he showed what appeared to be an RCMP badge to a police officer.
Parent’s criminal record includes a 2006 six-month sentence for impersonating a peace officer, as well as four months for fabricating evidence and attempting to obstruct justice.
In 2002, he was convicted of four fraud charges in Courtenay, and received a six-month jail term.
In 2007, he was sentenced to three years in prison for defrauding a Surrey businesswoman out of $32,000 for computer parts.
