An Abbotsford man has pleaded guilty to charges of possessing child pornography and importing or distributing child porn.
Danial James Munroe, 59, issued the plea on Monday in Abbotsford provincial court.
He had initially been charged with four offences, but charges of making or publishing child porn and another count of importing or distributing child porn are expected to be stayed.
Munroe’s sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 27 in Abbotsford.
Munroe was arrested and charged in early October after the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) was notified by an outside investigator that on Feb. 4, 2014, the possible distribution and possession of images of child sexual abuse had occurred from an Abbotsford home.
The APD’s major crime unit began investigating the matter in early June and executed a search warrant at Munroe’s residence on Sept. 3.
Items seized from the home included computers, phones, cameras, hard drives and storage devices.
Munroe was initially charged with three offences, but a fourth charge was later added.
He has been out on bail since shortly after his arrest and is required to follow court-ordered conditions that include: no contact with anyone under the age of 18; not attending any public park, school ground, swimming pool or other area where people under the age of 18 are expected to be present; and not to posses or use any device capable of accessing the Internet.
Munroe’s conditions also include: not communicating with anyone known to be involved in the sexual exploitation of children or in trading/possessing child exploitation materials and not accessing or being in possession of pornography of any kind.
