An Abbotsford man who provided a series of false tips to police last year has received a three-month conditional sentence (house arrest) followed by 18 months’ probation.
Donald George Campbell, 39, was sentenced Thursday in Abbotsford provincial court after previously pleading guilty to a public mischief charge.
Between late April and the end of June last year, Campbell provided 18 tips to police about supposed home invasions, sexual assaults, plans to kill police officers, and explosives being located in businesses and neighbourhoods.
Abbotsford Police investigated each of these tips and determined them all to be false.
Campbell was arrested in September and was initially charged with three counts of public mischief and one count of conveying a message to alarm.
Three of those charges were stayed in court.
At the time of his arrest, police said each of the tips used police resources and caused stress for many people working for the businesses and living in the areas named in the tips.
