Abbotsford police enforce traffic on Highway 11

APD Traffic Enforcement Unit regularly responds to general public hot spot complaints

The Abbotsford Police Department was very visible on Highway 11 outside the Abbotsford News office on Thursday morning, but it was nothing out of the ordinary for the APD’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.

Several speeders were pulled over, and Sgt. Judy Bird explained the unit regularly responds to requests for enforcement submitted by residents online.

She pointed out that the area is known for speeding, but also the intersection of Highway 11 and South Fraser Way is a high accident area.

Bird stated that anyone can suggest traffic enforcement areas or any other crime by visiting abbypd.ca/online-crime-reporting or by texting non-emergency incidents and issues to 222973.

The APD Traffic Enforcement Unit has two upcoming events later this month for teens, as they are hosting a Vehicle Maintenance 101 for Teens Zoom session on Tuesday, May 11 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The session is titled ‘What’s under the hood?’ and officers will show participants how to conduct a vehicle ‘spring clean-up’. They will teach information on how to look under the hood, learn how to jump a battery safely, how to check fluid levels, and more.

The registration link can be found here – https://bit.ly/39Ujdy6.

These free online sessions require advance registration through Eventbrite. The virtual door will close right at 7 p.m. the night before each session. Once registered, you will receive an email with a Zoom link for the event(s) you signed up for. Those wanting to have questions answered during the session can forward them to asktraffic@abbypd.ca.

Session three is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is all about motorcycle maintenance and safety. To register for that session, visit eventbrite.ca/e/teen-chat-about-vehicle-maintenance-motorcycle-maintenance-safety-tickets.
