Abbotsford School District awarded $5,000 for trades program

Youth Work in Trades allows high school students to begin apprenticeships

The Abbotsford School District has been awarded $5,000 for having the highest Youth Work in Trades registration rate the region.

The money from the Industry Training Authority (ITA) will go towards further developing the program, which allows students to begin a apprenticeship while still in high school.

“To make trades training work for young people, it is important for schools to partner with employers to give more students work experience,” Gary Herman, ITA’s chief executive officer, said in a statement. “ITA’s Youth Work in Trades program gives students an opportunity to ‘earn while they learn’ a trade in a workplace.”
