A local politician will play a role in Premier Christy Clark’s new government.

Shuswap MLA George Abbott was named minister of education Monday, the same post Abbott held when he resigned to run for premier.

Abbott has previously served as minister of health, community services, sustainable resource management, aboriginal relations and education.

Clark was sworn in as B.C.’s 35th premier Monday.

She replaces Gordon Campbell after a hotly contested Liberal leadership race. Abbott placed third in his bid for the job.
