The Abbotsford-Mission area continues to have the most generous charitable donors in Canada, according to new data from Statistics Canada.
Local residents gave $85 million to charity in 2015, and the $720 median gift among those who donated was far and away the highest in Canada. That figures is nearly $300 higher than the next closest census metropolitan areas, Saskatoon and Vancouver.
It’s the 14th consecutive year Abbotsford-Mission had the highest median donation.
The city doesn’t, however, have a higher-than-average number of donors. One-fifth (20.1 per cent) of Abbotsford-Mission tax-filers claimed a charitable donation. That number is slightly below the 21 per cent national average.
