Accident closes south end of Westside Road

RCMP officers believe truck and trailer may have been stolen

More is being revealed about an accident that led to the south end of Westside Road being closed Friday.

At 6:54 a.m., the RCMP received a report that a truck and trailer had gone off the road and down a steep embankment 12 kilometres from the Kelowna end of Westside Road.

“Witnesses said that no one was inside the vehicle, indicating to police that it had probably happened some time during the night,” said Cst. Kris Clark.

“The road was closed briefly but has re-opened as crews are unable to pull the vehicle out until later this weekend.”

The cause of the crash is unknown but it appears that the vehicle may have been stolen.

“Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and to determine who the occupants may have been,” said Clark.

Westside Road is now open but will be closed intermittently upon arrival of the tow truck while they work to pull the vehicle out of the ditch.

North Westside Road residents are being warned that conditions on Westside Road are less than ideal.

At 8:30 a.m. Friday, RCMP report that a Ford F350 hauling a fifth wheel trailer has gone off the road about 12 kilometres from the Kelowna end of Highway 97.

“Emergency crews are on scene and efforts are being made to extract the vehicle,” said Cst. Kris Clark.

“Indications are that the road will be closed for about two hours while the crews work.”
