Abbotsford hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts had a strong 2015, with revenue up 19 per cent over 2014.
Accommodation revenues topped $14 million in 2015, up from $11.8 million the previous year, according to Tourism Abbotsford’s recently released annual report.
Craig Nichols, Tourism Abbotsford’s executive director, said the loonie’s slump last year likely paid a role, enticing American visitors north and keeping British Columbia vacation seekers in the province.
Local hotels also benefited from a busy events year, with Nichols specifically pointing to a world baton twirling competition that brought more than 1,000 visitors to the city for a full week.
“We’re hoping it’s going to be another strong year,” said Nichols, with early indications suggesting as much.
