Accused granted bail in Oliver stabbing

The man accused of stabbing another man in a residence near Oliver was granted bail Wednesday.

The man accused of stabbing another man in a residence near Oliver was granted bail Wednesday.

Abraham Charleyboy, 32, is accused of stabbing Oliver man Matthew White and was granted a $500 bail, with conditions that he reside in Kelowna and observe a curfew from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.. He was also ordered not to be within the Town of Oliver.

Charleyboy returns to Penticton court on June 22 to elect the mode of trial. He is facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes.

Charleyboy was arrested by Oliver RCMP on June 3 after police responded to a reported stabbing on Highway 97 near Oliver. A woman told police she was driving a male to the hospital around 1 a.m. who had been stabbed repeatedly.

The alleged victim was at the woman’s residence and got into an argument that progressed into a fight. During the fight, police alleged Charleyboy stabbed and slashed the man repeatedly resulting in injuries that were considered serious and possibly life-threatening.

A search warrant was executed on the Oliver residence later that morning and a weapon was recovered, police said.
