Adopt a senior this Easter

Buds and Blooms has a target of adopting 200 seniors in the Elk Valley

As of Monday, 157 seniors have been ‘adopted’ around the Elk Valley in the lead up to Easter.

The ‘adopt a senior’ program by Buds and Blooms in Sparwood is meant to share a little bit of light and love with the seniors of the Elk Valley, reminding them they have not been forgotten while everyone stays apart.

Seniors who are adopted are gifted a flowering plant, some goodies and a card.

Sherry Benko, who started the ‘adopt a senior’ program for Valentine’s Day said it was extremely well received, with some seniors in the community even adopting other seniors for the occasion.

“It’s amazing,” she said, describing how children of seniors who had been adopted relayed their happiness to her.

“They’ve said how it reminds them of the old days when people helped each other.”

“One lady from the seniors centre said she couldn’t say how much it brightened her day.”

For $28, you can adopt a senior too. Benko has a target of 200 seniors in the Elk Valley from Elkford to Fernie. The $28 covers the flowers, gifts, taxes and delivery.

There’s a March 26 deadline to adopt senior though – so get in quick. The flowers will be delivered on April 4. To adopt a senior, call Buds and Blooms on 250-425-0222, or visit the store in the Sparwood mall. You can name a senior you’d like to adopt, or you can adopt anonymously.
