Children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems living in some Greater Vernon neighbourhoods should be cautious with their water.
A water quality advisory will be in place until Sept. 15 for customers who receive water from the Goose Lake reservoir.
“The reservoir is used to balance the water system when irrigation demands increase,” said Renee Clark, water quality manager.
“The reservoir is filled by the Duteau Creek water supply but when drawn from the reservoir, is only rechlorinated and with turbidity that at times exceeds one nephelometric turbidity unit,” said Renee Clark, water quality manager.
Goose Lake water is provided to residents in the rural areas on both the east and west sides of Swan Lake, as well as some within the City of Vernon.

During the advisory, young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems should boil their water for one minute for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice and brushing teeth.
“Customers will be advised when this water quality advisory is rescinded,” said Clark.
Sept. 15 is the end of the irrigation season in Greater Vernon.
