Some Greater Vernon residents should still be cautious about their drinking water over the long weekend.

A water quality advisory remains in place for the Duteau Creek source although the Regional District of North Okanagan had expected to lift the alert Thursday.

“The water distribution system sampling results have remained good but there has been some difficulty in maintaining a 24-hour average turbidity below 1.5 nephelometric turbidity unit,” said Renee Clark, water quality manager.

“This level of turbidity is not visible but is a level that has been established for this treatment plant. RDNO and the Interior Health Authority will re evaluate the advisory early next week.”

The advisory was put in place because of planned work at the Duteau Creek treatment plant.

Until the advisory is lifted, young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems should be cautious.

These customers should boil their water for one minute for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice and brushing teeth.
