They’re there lending a hand when someone is burned out of their home or flood waters threaten.
And now Emergency Support Services is hoping Enderby area residents will consider volunteering for the agency.
“We want to be part of the community of the North Okanagan,” said Helen Sinclair, with ESS, which is part of North Okanagan Emergency Management.
An open house will be held Wednesday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Enderby fire hall.
“We are urging people to come and find out about ESS and how to serve the community,” said Sinclair.
“There will be a basic demonstration of our process during an emergency.”
Sinclair hopes there will be interest in ESS after a mudslide ripped out part of Mabel Lake Road and cut off access to Kingfisher.
Among ESS’ mandates is to provide people with short-term access to housing, meals and clothes when impacted by an emergency.
“Come out and meet your ESS team and find out what preparations you can make and which details are taken care of for you,” said Sinclair.
