During the July 7 barbecue at the BC Food Systems Network Gathering in 100 Mile House, Teresa Donck looked after a table of books local photographic artist Chris Harris offered as a fundraiser for the new Agri-Culture Enterprise Centre Society.

It has been two years of work, but the Agri-Culture Enterprise Centre Society (ACECS) now has a location and is a legal entity.

The society’s first general meeting will be held in the Community Kitchen and Valley Room at the 100 Mile House Lodge & Conference Centre on July 26, starting at 6 p.m.

This is a community pot-luck gathering, hosted by the community kitchen and ACECS, Rita Giesbrecht says, adding it’s an opportunity for people to find out what this is all about.

“It’s time to get started, and everyone is invited to this meeting.”

One of the founding board members, Giesbrecht notes the other founding board members are Dave Zirnhelt and Rod Hennecker.

“This is the outcome of a feasibility study initiated from the Cariboo Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition.”

Giesbrecht says they will establish their first official board of directors at the July 26 meeting, and they invite all interested people to join the society.

“It’s time to re-enliven the local beef industry and all aspects of agriculture.”

Giesbrecht says ACECS membership will provide a body of people with common goals of creating a localized and secure food economy in 100 Mile House and the surrounding area. Participation is key and lifetime memberships are only $10, she adds.
