Alberni briefs: a fire conference, liquor licences and more

Liquor licenses endorsed

City council has endorsed the special occasion licenses for 2016 as long as they adhere to provincial liquor board and local RCMP regulations.

Search for new RCMP inspector

The City of Port Alberni is entering the interview stage in their search for a replacement RCMP inspector for the Port Alberni detachment. Former Inspector Mac Richards left for Prince Edward Island a few weeks ago and Sgt. Dave Paddock has been filling in temporarily since then.

Summer crafters market a go

The City of Port Alberni has entered into an agreement with Gwen Lowe and Beth Larsen to operate a crafters market at Harbour Quay from May 1 to September 30. The tenants will pay $75 a month to rent Spirit Square from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Sunday.

Funds for fire conference

City council agreed to contribute up to $500 to the B.C. Fire Training Officers Association Conference local organizing committee for transportation costs during the upcoming provincial conference in Port Alberni.

ICF liaison named

Coun. Chris Alemany has been named as the city’s council liaison for the Island Corridor Foundation’s local government liaison committee. The committee will meet twice annually and allow for local governments to better express their concerns to the ICF.

Alberni curlers go to nationals

The City of Port Alberni will be providing four Alberni Valley Curling Club members with city pins to hand out at the 55+ Canada Games in Brampton, Ontario. The games will take place from Aug. 16-19. According to the AVCC, the pins have been handed out with great success at prior games.
