Alberni Valley worst hit by power outages: BC Hydro

Crews will be working throughout the night and into tomorrow (Dec. 11) morning to restore power to 3,200 customers in the Valley.

Over 3,200 customers remain without power in the Alberni Valley, according to BC Hydro affairs officer Karla Louwers.

“We have 13 crews there now and 13 more crews travelling to the area,” said Louwers. Power outage started throughout the Alberni Valley at approximately 2:30 p.m. due to a windstorm that downed trees and snapped power lines throughout the region.

The Valley was hit hardest by the windstorm, said Louwers.

“We’re directing all areas to the Alberni Valley to aid with restoration because at about 230 toay it was the hardest hit area on Vancouver Island with the windstorm.”

There’s no exact time when power is expected to be restored to the region.

“Because there’s significant ammounts of damage to the area it’s difficult to give an accurate time estimate for restoration,” said Louwers.

“At the peak today, there were over 8,600 customers in the area without power. We know crews will be working through the night and also into the day tomorrow making repairs and restoring power.”
