Boston Pizza has pulled its burgers from the menu following a voluntary recall of beef products by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency last week. The move includes Port Alberni’s Boston Pizza franchise.
“The safety of our guests is of utmost importance to us,” Boston Pizza director of communications Perry Schwartz wrote in an e-mail to the Alberni Valley News.
“As a result, following a voluntary recall by The Canadian Food Inspection Agency last Saturday (March 17, 2012) of products manufactured by New Food Classics, we immediately notified our stores of the recall and stopped serving the product,” Schwartz said.
Boston Pizza has made a deal with a new supplier, Cardinal Meat Specialists Ltd., a Canadian company in operation since 1966 with “demonstrated industry-leading food safety programs,” Schwartz said. Boston Pizza expects to have its burger products back on the menu next week.
Beef was recalled due to concerns certain products contain E. coli. The recall also included products sold at Loblaw grocery stores like No Frills here in Port Alberni, which has already pulled affected items from its shelves.
