A partial power outage knocked out some services at West Coast General Hospital on Monday afternoon.
The outage happened during the day and impacted phones, computers, the kitchen and x-ray machines for half an hour, Vancouver Island Health Authority spokesperson Anya Nimmon said
The outage did not impact critical services such as the emergency room or intensive care unit, and no patients had to be moved, she said.
The initial cause of the outage appears to be a faulty circuit, which was bypassed to get services up and running again. The generators didn’t kick in because it wasn’t a major power outage, she added.
VIHA technicians aren’t certain why the circuit failed and are running diagnostics in an effort to determine what happened.
