Alberta United Conservative Party (UCP) leader and Leader of the Opposition Jason Kenney will be speaking in Abbotsford on Saturday, March 3.
Kenney is scheduled to speak at 6:30 p.m. at the Sandman Inn and Suites (32720 Simon Ave.) at a fundraising dinner for the Conservative Party of Canada’s 2019 election campaign.
Kenney served as a member of parliament in Ottawa for 19 years, having first been elected at the age of 29.
He served the Stephen Harper government in several ministries, most notably immigration and defence.
Kenney then transferred to provincial politics. He was elected the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta in March 2017, pledging to unite the party with the rival Wildrose Party.
The merger of the two parties was completed in July 2017, and Kenney was elected as the first full-time leader of the UCP of Alberta.
He was elected to the legislative assembly in a by-election in December 2017 after MLA Dave Rodney resigned his seat to create a vacancy for Kenney.
Marc Vella, president of the local Conservatives, said Kenney ‘s talk in Abbotsford will include the Alberta vs B.C. trade issues, the national economy and other current issues in Canadian politics.
