Alcohol keeps RCMP busy

Alcohol is at the root of three motor vehicle related incidents reported by the RCMP.

On Thursday July 12, 2012 at approximately 10:18 p.m., police observed a large black Dodge truck fish-tailing side to side through the dirt parking lot at a high rate of speed in the parking lot of the Telkwa Pub.

Police stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver.

Investigation revealed the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition under the Motor vehicle Act as well as a Violation Ticket for drive without due care and attention, fail to produce insurance and drive contrary to restriction.

The truck was subsequently impounded for seven days.

On July 13, 2012, at approximately 9:50 p.m. Smithers RCMP responded to a report of a possible drunk driver traveling from Houston to Smithers on Highway 16.

Police located the vehicle and conducted a road check.

Investigation revealed alcohol impairment and the driver was issued a 30-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition under the Motor vehicle Act and the vehicle was impounded for 90 days.

On Saturday July 14, 2012 at approximately 3:05 a.m. Police observed an older model white Toyota truck run through a stop sign without headlights on Columbia St in Smithers.

Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle however it fled.

Police subsequently located the truck on Hwy 16 near Toboggan creek with a flat tire.

The three occupants had fled on foot into the bush.

Police conducted a search and located all three intoxicated persons hiding nearby.

All were arrested and released once sober with a Court date.

Police are recommending charges against two males under the Criminal Code for Refusal to Provide a Breath Sample, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Peace Officer, Assault of a Peace Officer and Obstruction.

On July 15, 2012, at approximately 1:00 a.m., police received a report that a Black 2007 Nissan pick up was stolen from a residence on Park Ave in Moricetown.

The truck was located the next day in the bush near Fisherman road and had sustained some damage to the drivers side.

Police have no suspects at this time and anyone with any information is requested to contact the Smithers RCMP or CrimeStoppers
