Alert issued to cyclists and drivers

Driver and cyclists are being cautioned to keep their eyes peeled for each other

Driver and cyclists are being cautioned to keep their eyes peeled for each other after yet another cyclist was struck in Vernon Wednesday.

“We need cyclists and operators to be aware of each other,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“We’ve had three or four in the last week or two.”

The latest incident involved a Vernon driver and a cyclist in the 4200 block of 27th Avenue at around 6:45 p.m.

“The driver of a white van was coming out of an alley to turn right. Just as he pulled forward he struck the cyclist,” said Molendyk.

The cyclist was taken to the hospital as a precaution and minor injuries were sustained.

“No charges are being issued at this time,” said Molendyk.

Tuesday’s incident follows a tragic accident last week.

Cyclist Jennifer Wadsworth died of injuries after she collided with a pickup truck July 2 on 25th Avenue.
