A fire in Robson Sunday evening has left a home with extensive damage. The Robson Volunteer Fire Department (RVFD) received a call around 7:30 p.m. of a single family residence on Clarke Rd. engulfed in flames.
When fire crews arrived, the home was about 40 per cent involved. “We managed to do a very effective knock down of the fire,” said RVFD chief Jeff Grant. “We stopped it pretty well at that 40 per cent.”
The occupant of the home was not in the house when fire crews arrived, thanks to some alert neighbours. Albert Smith noticed the flames coming out of his neighbour’s house while looking out his window. He then went to Dean Bird’s house for help and the two of them entered the burning home of Stephen Hart. They found Hart asleep, but were able to get him and his dogs safely out of the house.
“They saved my Dad’s life,” said Hart’s daughter Meaghan. “I think they deserve a medal.”
“Everything went pretty well, we had a little bit of help from Pass Creek Fire, who brought a crew down,” added Grant. In total, 12 fire fighters from Robson and three from Pass Creek were on the scene along with three apparatus from Robson and one from Pass Creek.
“It was a fast-growing fire and was fairly involved when we got there, but we hit it hard and we hit it fast right off the bat, explained Grant. “It went good from our perspective. Nobody was hurt, everybody was out — at the end of the day that is all that really matters.”
