Ridge Meadows RCMP are getting back to basics with a series of “Super Shifts,” starting Friday, April 13.

All Ridge Meadows RCMP sections are putting on their uniforms for a coordinated grassroots community policing initiative for Friday’s night shift.

Police officers from general duty, street enforcement, plain clothes and traffic units, along with the senior management and volunteers will be out in force throughout Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

“This all-hands-on-deck approach is a great opportunity for members to get out and work with each other and do some good old fashioned police work,” said Supt. Jennifer Hyland.

“Foot patrols and community policing are not a new concept. These ‘Super Shifts’ are just another tool in our efforts to provide policing services to our communities”

“The guiding principles of modern day policing in Canada are contributed to Sir Robert Peel. Many consider Peel, and his nine principals, as the father of modern democratic policing. Guided by Peel’s principals, what we now know as ‘community policing’ is a proven and effective method of preventing crime.
