AN ARREST warrant for a local man facing 17 drug charges was withdrawn yesterday, June 11, after he showed up for court late in the afternoon.

David Edwardsen was due in court at 10:30 a.m. to consult legal counsel but, after he failed to show, federal crown Harold Akema requested a bench warrant for his arrest, which judge Calvin Struyk ordered.

About 4 p.m., Edwardsen appeared in court and the court withdrew the warrant.

Edwardsen was granted bail in Vancouver Supreme Court May 30 at a bail review with three sureties who could come up with the $100,000 bail if needed.

At that time, he signed forms acknowledging that he had read and understood that his next court date was June 11 at 10:30 a.m. here

With his bail comes conditions to follow for him to remain on bail.

Those conditions include not having contact with four other people, living with relatives and going straight from their residence to full-time work and back again, plus conditions requiring him to not possess firearms, weapons or ammunition or illegal drugs.

Edwardsen had been in jail since his arrest in late September 2012.

On Sept. 19, 2012, after a 14-month investigation, police executed five search warrants on five properties in Terrace and area and arrested Edwardsen and four others, who were released while Edwardsen remained in custody.

Police seized what they said was a variety of illegal drugs, prescription drugs and firearms.

Prosecutors have laid 17 charges against Edwardsen.

His next court date is scheduled for later this month.
