Alleged drunk ditches truck in town

An allegedly drunk driver almost took out a fellow motorist, Sunday, July 10, during an early morning drive down Wellington Road, in Lake Cowichan.

An allegedly drunk driver almost took out a fellow motorist, Sunday, July 10, during an early morning drive down Wellington Road, in Lake Cowichan.

Tire marks weave a dangerous path down Wellington Road, indicating the truck swerved a great deal before hitting the ditch.

The town alarm went off shortly after 7 a.m., Sunday, with local paramedics and volunteer firefighters arriving a few minutes later.

The witness said that she saw the truck’s driver get out, profess his drunkneness, and then run down the Trans Canada Trail before the first responders arrived.
