A man faces theft charges after allegedly stealing a pickup truck left running in a church parking lot Sunday evening.
The Kelowna RCMP responded Aug. 21 at 8:46 p.m., to a report of a theft of a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, which had just occurred, from the parking lot of a church in the 4100 block of June Springs Road.
“Police have determined that the suspect had entered the driver’s seat of the truck, which had been left idling with a passenger inside,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey, in a press release. “The suspect allegedly reached across, opened the passenger side door of the vehicle and pushed the woman passenger out before fleeing the area.”
The woman did not sustain any injuries as a result of being pushed out of the vehicle and promptly reported the theft to the vehicle owner who contacted police.
The RCMP investigation quickly revealed a suspect in the vehicle theft. Police tracked their suspect down, to a residence in the 3100 block of Prospect Road, where he was arrested without incident.
Further investigation led police to the stolen truck which was seized for forensic examination.
The suspect, a 27-year-old Kelowna man of no fixed address, was held in police custody, expected to appear in Court on Aug. 22. He faces potential charges including theft over $5,000.
